UK Cipher Machines
Over the years, the United Kingdom (UK) produced a wide range of different cipher machines, ranging from mechanical and electro-mechanical manchines, to fully electronic devices. Quite often these machines were (partly) developed by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), sometimes in cooperation with the US National Security Agency (NSA). The following British cipher machines are currently described on this website:

Matrix-based manual cipher system for tactical messages Slidex British wheel-based cipher machine used extensively during WWII Typex BID/250 SAVILLE-based voice encryption unit for Clansman DMU BID/250 BID/980 Bulk Encryptor with HAIRPIN logic BID/980

Wanted items
At present, Crypto Museum has no UK cipher machines in its collection. This is not because we don't like them, but simply because they are extremely difficult to obtain. The non-exhaustive list above shows some of the British cipher machines we would be interested in. If you can help, please contact us.
