DRS Technologies Inc (DRS) is a US-based manufacturer of rugged equipment
for the Department of Defence (DoD). The company started life in 1968
as Diagnostic/Retrieval Systems Inc when it was founded by Leonard Newman
and David Gross, two engineers who worked for Loral Corporation [1].
The company went public in 1981 and has since acquired a series of other
companies in order to expand its turnover. The company turnover has since
increased from a mere $58M in 1994 to more than $1B in 2004.
Finally, in 2008, DRS itself was acquired
by Finmeccania S.p.A. in Italy.
Until 2012, Marc Newman (the son of founder Leonard Newman) was CEO of the
company, which continues to operate under its orginal name to this day.
